Meet the team behind this journey

DeepL has millions of passionate users around the globe, including a growing number of Enterprise teams that depend on collaborative workflows to manage and refine their content. Our Collaboration and Asset Management team’s mission is to deliver the features these teams need, ensuring smoother, faster processes and reducing the need for multiple external tools. By offering intuitive collaboration and streamlined asset management, we drive habit-formation and retention, making DeepL the go-to platform for all translation and content refinement tasks.

In this role, you will partner with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to design and maintain the backend services powering our collaboration features. As a Senior Backend Engineer, your expertise in building scalable systems using modern technologies (such as C# and .NET Core) will be instrumental in enabling real-time teamwork, version management, and feedback loops. Your contributions will help shape the technical architecture underpinning collaborative workflows, ensuring enterprise users can efficiently deliver high-quality translations and content. By continuously improving these core services, you’ll play a key part in establishing DeepL as an essential component of team-based content creation worldwide.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain features within a microservices-driven architecture in a hybrid cloud environment, from early design phases to production deployment, collaborating with multiple engineering teams.
  • Enhance software maintainability, reliability, and performance through robust coding standards, automated testing, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster a collaborative engineering culture through pair programming, mob programming, and knowledge-sharing activities—coaching others and championing best practices.
  • Maintain a documentation-first mindset, promoting clarity and efficient onboarding across the organization.
  • Work closely with product managers and designers to clarify feature scope, prioritize user needs, and align solutions with product strategy.
  • Leverage data-informed approaches—metrics, observability, usage trends—to guide engineering decisions and validate outcomes.

Qualities we look for

  • Proficiency in a modern programming language with solid experience in backend development. Exposure to or familiarity with our tech stack (C#, .NET Core, PostgreSQL, Grafana, Kubernetes, Kafka) or similar technologies would be beneficial but is not a strict requirement. What’s more important is your willingness and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Experience in building, scaling, and maintaining business-critical applications
  • Solid understanding of algorithmic complexity and common data structures
  • Effective and pragmatic; you can weigh between ‘perfect’ and ‘good enough’ depending on priorities and business impact
  • The ability to explain complex ideas and designs to developers and stakeholders with a wide variety of experience and backgrounds
  • Capacity to balance short-term deliverables with long-term product vision, ensuring product evolution aligns with user and business goals
  • Understanding of observability, metrics, and managing an application throughout its entire lifecycle
  • A user-centric mindset: deep user empathy, ownership of user data, and eagerness to make a direct impact on the user experience at DeepL
  • A continuous learning mindset—openness to trying different approaches and adapting to new technologies
  • Fluent in English
  • Comfortable with a hybrid working model and able to come into any of our offices regularly (2x per week average).

  • Regular in-person team events: we bond over vibrant events that are as unique as our team, from local team and business unit gatherings, to new-joiner onboardings, to company-wide events that bring us all together–literally.
  • Monthly full-day hacking sessions: every month, we have Hack Fridays, where you can spend your time diving into a project you're passionate about and get the opportunity to work with other teams–we value your initiatives, impact, and creativity.
  • 30 days of annual leave: we value your peace of mind. With 30 days off (excluding public holidays) and access to mental health resources, we make sure you're as strong mentally as you are professionally.
  • Competitive benefits: just as our team spans the globe, so does our benefits package. We've crafted it to reflect the diversity of our team and tailored it to align with your unique location, to ensure you feel supported every step of the way.
