About the role
We’re looking for an exceptional engineer to lead the Ads Brand Safety engineering team, re-envisioning and re-building Brand Safety systems at X from first principles using xAI’s cutting edge AI and infra. Brand Safety plays a critical role in the overall success of advertising at X.
What You’ll Do
- System Design & Development: Architect and build scalable systems to detect, moderate, and mitigate brand unsafe and unsuitable content from first principles using cutting edge models and infra from xAI.
- Team Leadership:Lead a team of engineers from the front, building core brand safety technical systems hands-on while providing technical guidance and mentorship to the team.
- Policy Enforcement: Collaborate with client partnership, policy, and ops teams to translate brand safety policies into technical requirements and automated solutions.
- Machine Learning & AI: Leverage machine learning models, AI infra, and Grok LLM to enhance content detection accuracy and efficiency.
- Incident Response: Lead rapid response efforts for brand safety incidents, ensuring swift resolution and post-incident analysis to prevent recurrence and maintain advertiser trust.
Who You Are
- Experience in building large scale and performant advertising systems: ads serving, recommendations, prediction.
- Strong track record of setting the product and technical direction, leading organizations, and building next generation advertising tech stacks hands-on.
- Proven experience with trust and safety teams or organizations focused on online safety.
- A technical leader who has the interest to still be hands on, and has deep machine learning experience.

Interview Process
After submitting your application, the team reviews your CV and statement of exceptional work. If your application passes this stage, you will be invited to a 15 minute interview (“phone interview”) during which a member of our team will ask some basic questions. If you clear the initial phone interview, you will enter the main process, which consists of four technical interviews:
- Coding assessment in a language of your choice.
- Systems hands-on: Demonstrate practical skills in a live problem-solving session.
- Project deep-dive: Present your past exceptional work to a small audience.
- Meet and greet with the wider team.
Our goal is to finish the main process within one week. All interviews will be conducted via Google Meet.
Location
The role is based in Palo Alto. Candidates are expected to be located near the Bay Area or open to relocation.
Annual Salary Range
$180,000 - $440,000 USD
