Tempus is seeking a highly qualified undergraduate Software Engineering (Security) Summer Analyst to work with us for the summer of 2025. We are looking for people who can change the world.

As a Summer Intern at Tempus, you will:

Anticipated Summer Project(s):
- Web Browser Governance - As our business utilizes web browser-based applications we are looking to enhance the configuration and security of standard web browsers on our Tempus computers. This project will include analysis of best practice settings from organizations such as CISA and CSA,the development of a new web browser configuration standard, and a rollout of that standard to Tempus computers.
- 2024-2025 HIPAA Risk Assessment - As part of our regulatory obligations as a Healthcare organization there is a requirement to complete an organization-wide risk assessment. This project will support a cross-functional team across Legal and Information Security to prepare for and initiate this risk assessment. This will enable the gathering of key insights from our business areas around potential areas of improvement in protecting Protected Health Information (PHI).
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree (undergraduate completion in summer of 2026) in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, and Information Systems.
- General knowledge of computing platforms, including Windows, OSX, Linux, Unix, and networking fundamentals
- General knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Preferably some basic experience with one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, and Bash).
- Ideally familiar with regulatory requirements and laws, such as Payment Card Industry (PCI), HIPAA, GDPR, and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a variety of settings and media.
- Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Google Suite and Gmail, preferred.
- A self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others in a fast-paced environment is critical. Be ready to fly the plane as you’re still building it!
Additional Details:
- You will spend 8 or 10 weeks working in our Chicago office. The internship will be a hybrid, onsite 3 days/week with the option to work remotely the remaining days.
- The program will start in early June and run through August.
- A competitive hourly wage will be provided for the summer employment and a relocation bonus to help offset some of the relocation costs and resources to help you find housing.
