The Senior Financial Analyst will serve as a strategic partner to the Clinical and Research Labs teams, providing financial oversight, actionable insights, and decision support. This role requires a deep understanding of financial processes, financial modeling expertise, along with the ability to work collaboratively with scientific and operational leaders to drive Tempus’ mission forward.
This is a Chicago, IL based role with Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday in-office attendance required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Planning & Analysis:
- Partner with Clinical and Research Labs leadership and Supply Chain to develop and manage costs, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
- Conduct detailed variance analysis to monitor financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Prepare and present financial performance reports, including key performance indicators (KPIs), to senior leadership. Robust excel modeling experience necessary.
- Ensure accurate reporting of lab-related expenses and capital expenditures.
- Operational Support:
- Collaborate with lab operations, both clinical and R&D, to analyze cost structures, resource allocation, and efficiency metrics.
- Develop financial models to evaluate new initiatives, capacity planning, and capital investment opportunities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with Accounting, Operations, and R&D teams to align financial goals with operational strategies. Be the go to finance partner for operational changes, headcount changes, vendor changes, etc.
- Provide business and operational insights to Supply Chain to support pricing, procurement, and vendor negotiations.
- Work with FP&A revenue partner to provide pricing and margin guidance to business units for contract negotiations, running volume scenario analysis for different pricing structures.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement improvements in financial processes to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
- Drive automation and optimization of financial reporting and analysis tools.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 4+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis, preferably within healthcare, biotech, or a research-driven environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, expertise in financial modeling and data analysis is a must.
- Proficiency in financial systems and tools such as Excel, Google Sheets, ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP); experience with BI tools (e.g., Looker, Power BI).
- Experience supporting lab operations or R&D functions is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial data to non-finance stakeholders.
- Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
