At Meta Reality Labs (RL), we're developing the future of augmented reality. As a Research Technical Program Manager (SW), you are a critical member of a multidisciplinary team contributing to our efforts to gain a scientific understanding of human and machine perception; translating it into the ultimate AR experience for our users. You will work closely with a team of engineers in Reality Labs Research to build software and services that power research tools, like Project Aria. Project Aria is a research tool which accelerates Meta’s machine perception and AI learnings from a human. Alignment with teams across Reality Labs and Meta is essential in order to deliver on that vision. To be successful, your goal is to accelerate development by eliminating barriers to your team's success, clearly communicating results to all stakeholders, and ensuring that the big picture and long term strategy remains in focus while going deep as you manage the project day-to-day. We look for technical program managers who have a strong technical foundation and are natural motivators, cross-functional relationship builders, and champions for driving the right level of process to ensure smooth and predictable program execution in a fast-paced innovative environment.
Technical Program Manager, Reality Labs Research Responsibilities:
- Work with a cross-functional team of researchers, hardware and software engineers, user experience researchers, and research product managers to set clear deliverables and milestones to deliver high quality device software and services.
- Identify project scope, requirements, constraints, dependencies, and risks.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across the research team, suppliers and vendors, and cross-functional leadership.
- Effectively communicate program goals, status, and project risks to key cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
- Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and communication issues and drive creative solutions to fix them and manage risk.
- Work cross-functionally to develop best practices and technology development processes in a quickly-changing and dynamic environment to ensure successful delivery.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of program management experience delivering end-user facing software products and cloud services (consumer, industrial, or research related).
- Working knowledge of Product Development Process (PDP) and Software Development Lifecycle (SDL).
- Proven project management, leadership, dependency management, and cross-group collaboration skills with a proven track record of managing complex projects with a variety of partner teams.
- Versatility in corresponding, presenting, and facilitating to all levels of the organization, technical and non-technical content.
- Experience working in a highly ambiguous technology field with rapidly changing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in related fields, such as Computer Science.
- Experience in shipping AR/VR or computer vision enabled products or services.
- Experience working in a research group or startup.
