Job Description:
As a Prototype Manager at Shield AI, you will lead and oversee the physical build of innovative UAV prototypes from conception through testing and evaluation stages of development. You will manage a multidisciplinary team of technicians to ensure the timely and successful completion of prototype projects. Your role will involve coordinating project activities, allocating resources, and maintaining communication with stakeholders to deliver UAV prototypes that meet technical specifications and performance objectives.
Working Conditions:
- Work in an shop floor environment and on-site in laboratories or testing facilities, overseeing UAV prototype development activities.
- Occasional travel may be required to support field testing or meet with stakeholders.
What You'll Do:
- Project Planning and Coordination: Coordinate with Program Management to develop project plans, define milestones, and allocate resources to ensure the efficient execution of UAV prototype development projects.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of technicians and foster a collaborative and innovative work environment to achieve project goals. Direct daily management to include daily problem solving will be required.
- Prototype Development Oversight: Oversee the assembly and integration of UAV prototypes, ensuring adherence to design requirements and quality standards. Work closely with the Design Engineering team to refine product definition.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges during prototype development, implementing mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions and ensure timely delivery.
- Stakeholder Communication: Maintain regular communication with internal stakeholders, including engineering teams, program management, and external partners, providing updates on project progress and addressing concerns as they arise.
Required Qualifications:

- Project Management Expertise: Proven experience in project management, with the ability to plan, organize, and oversee complex engineering projects from concept to completion.
- UAV Technology Knowledge: Solid understanding of UAV systems, components, and technologies, with experience in UAV prototype development and testing.
- Leadership and Team Management: Strong leadership skills to motivate and guide a diverse team of technical professionals, fostering collaboration and achieving project objectives.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to analyze technical issues, implement solutions, and make informed decisions under pressure to keep projects on track.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in UAV development, including hands-on involvement in prototype design, testing, and/or project management.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) or relevant leadership training is advantageous.
