As a Technical Lead / Manager in the Driver Understanding and Evaluation Experience team, you will lead our Assessment Tooling team. This team develops the user-facing tools and infrastructure that are used internally to understand the Waymo Driver’s performance. These web-based applications help to smooth the build, evaluate, launch workflow and are used by every part of Waymo, including SWEs, PMs, Data Scientists, Ops, and Research. They are a core part of solving almost every self-driving challenge that Waymo faces.
You will lead a team of Software Engineers and collaborate with users, Product Managers, and our UX team to build products that improve Waymo’s engineering capabilities around our toughest self-driving challenges.
In this hybrid role, you will report to a Senior Engineering Manager.
You Will
- Manage a team to deliver tooling to facilitate human evaluation of driving events
- Build quarterly and annual technical roadmaps that meet product requirements and manage work on the team towards those goals.
- Collaborate across departments and align execution to meet product goals
- Partner with technical leads, product managers and program managers to lead execution on broad efforts
- Lead proactive risk management efforts and contingency plans across the program landscape to achieve the program
- Set up and sustain mechanisms that promote organizational efficiencie.s, and improve speed of decision-making and execution
You Have
- 10+ year of experience leading engineering teams of 5-15 people, delivering on both short-term goals and long-term strategic plans.
- Leverage technical expertise to communicate with engineering leads, assessing technical trade-offs and their impacts on project scope, risk, and timelines
- 10+ years of experience developing, and deploying internal tools that improve engineering efficiency or productivity.
- 10+ years of experience in full-stack Web development, comfortable with both front-end and back-end
- 10+ years of experience managing engineers, including conducting performance reviews, promoting career development, and facilitating collaboration.
- BS in Computer Science or related field
We Prefer
- Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Computer Science or a related field and 10+ years of software engineering experience
- Familiarity with human-computer interaction (HCI) principles and experience crowdsourcing platforms or human-in-the-loop systems
- Proficiency in C++
- Proficiency in TypeScript
- Experience leading geographically distributed engineering teams
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
