The Winter Defense Tech Fellowship is an insight program for students looking to accelerate their personal and technical growth in preparation for a successful, impactful career in tech & defense. This a self-guided, remote program during which you will have the unique opportunity to build groundbreaking defense projects using Palantir's AI Platform – AIP, during your school's winter break.
The Fellowship kicks off December 10th 2024 and concludes January 10th 2025. Following the conclusion of the program and presentations, the top students will be selected & invited to one of our offices for a special presentation of the winning projects. All participants will receive a certificate of participation and a special Palantir swag item.
What You'll Do:
- Identify a Problem & Innovate with Data: Right now the US needs innovative solutions for defense more than ever. This is your opportunity to identify a problem you care about, and come up with your own solution. We’ll provide some notional data examples to get you inspired, and you are encouraged to bring any publicly available data to enrich your project.
- Build & Create: Develop cutting-edge solutions in defense technology using AIP, with guidance and support from experienced Palantirians to help you succeed. Find some examples below for inspiration!

What We Require
- Active US Security clearance, or eligibility and willingness to obtain a US Security clearance if employed with Palantir in the future.
- Engineering background, preferred in fields such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, and Data Science.
- Proficiency with one or more programming languages, such as Python, Java, C++, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at an accredited US university and on course to graduate in 2026.

- Most recent resume or CV: Please ensure that your university and expected graduation year are clearly listed.
- Project Proposal: If you could solve a problem in the defense space, what would it be? What data would you use? We want to understand your creativity & problem solving abilities. Describe something you’d want to dive into and a high-level approach to how you’d design a solution and what data you would use. This will not lock you into a specific idea but will help us understand how you approach problem-solving and innovation.
- AIP Developer Tier: Submit a link to your AIP Developer Tier Stack (URL), showcasing your technical setup and readiness to dive into the project. You can get your own AIP Developer Stack here! A valid credit card will be required for identity verification (KYC) purposes. Your card will not be charged.
- Speedruns: Confirm that you will complete the Speedruns on learn.palantir.com before the program kick-off to demonstrate your proficiency with our platform and prepare for hacking!
- (Optional): Submit your Palantir Community Profile URL
- (Optional): Submit any Demo links of your work on AIP
