At the intersection of these initiatives, the Discovery & Search Experience organization of Instagram Search AI is making meaningful progress. We are looking for a Research Scientist to join the Discovery Ranking team to advance the user search experience across all surfaces of the Instagram App. The Discovery Ranking team plays a pivotal role in these initiatives, driving meaningful progress through the CDD product. This initiative is designed to empower users to explore content more thoroughly, aligning with their interests, and enhancing their overall experience.
Research Scientist, Instagram AI Search Responsibilities:
- Conduct research to design and enhance the quality of the prompt generation models, including the design and collection of training data, generative model fine-tuning, and system prompt tuning.
- Develop improvements in multimodal content understanding and apply these advanced content understanding signals to prompt generation.
- Develop guidelines and build measurement frameworks that establish quality standards for different "suggest prompt" products on IG.
- Research and develop an LLM-based evaluation and refinement layer, experimenting with various LLM architectures and techniques to optimize prompt generation for diverse application scenarios.
- Produce and present publications that influence the progress of AI or Machine Learning in relevant research communities.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners and contribute towards Meta's research product development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
- Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
- Experience in solving modeling problems using AI/ML approaches.
- Experience in software and executing complex experiments involving large AI models and datasets.
- Experience in Python, PyTorch, or other related language.
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in generative AI and LLM research in the domain of Search or Recommendation.
- Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, ACL, etc.
- Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
- Demonstrated research and software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).
- Experience bringing machine learning-based products from research to production.
- Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and different perspectives to determine a path forward.
- Experience holding an industry, faculty, or government researcher position.
