The Opportunity: Unlocking the Future of Robotics
The future of robotics—from autonomous logistics and precision agriculture to surgical assistance and human-robot collaboration—is fundamentally bottlenecked by the availability of high-quality, high-fidelity training data. The physical world is infinitely complex, and capturing its nuance is the single greatest challenge holding back progress.
To solve this, Labelbox is building an advanced robotics lab and software stack designed to generate pristine, structured data for the world's leading robotics companies.
We are seeking a visionary and operationally-driven leader to be the founding head of this critical initiative. As the Head of Robotics Data, you will be the single-threaded owner responsible for taking this program from its early stages to a scaled, potentially 24/7 operation. You will sit at the intersection of hardware engineering, software development, complex operations, and deep customer partnership, building the Robotics lab that powers the next generation of intelligent machines.
Your Impact
- Strategic & Operational Leadership: Own the end-to-end vision and strategy for the Roboticslab. You will build and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary team of engineers, operators, and technicians, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and urgency.
- Build a World-Class Data Factory: Architect, implement, and scale a robust 24/7 operational framework for data generation. You will develop rigorous processes, KPIs, monitoring, and automation to ensure unparalleled uptime, efficiency, and data integrity. Your goal is to build a machine that builds the data.
- Customer Obsession & Partnership: Serve as the primary technical and operational partner for our strategic robotics customers. You will work hand-in-hand with their engineering leaders to deeply understand their data requirements, quality bars, and cost constraints, translating them into actionable production targets and ensuring we consistently exceed their expectations.
- Technical Vision & Roadmap: Drive the technical roadmap across both hardware (robotics hardware, sensors, compute infrastructure) and software (data acquisition pipelines, processing workflows, quality control tools). You will partner with our core engineering teams to integrate this capability seamlessly into the Labelbox platform.
- Scale from 1 to N: You will be responsible for scaling every aspect of the program, from physical facility expansion and hardware procurement to software automation and global workforce planning. You will create the playbook that allows us to replicate and expand this capability to meet ever-growing customer demand.
What You Bring
- A minimum of 10+ years of experience in a technical field, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing engineering, product, or operational teams.
- Proven track record of scaling complex, capital-intensive, 24/7 operations that involve a tight coupling of hardware, software, and human processes (e.g., manufacturing, data centers, advanced R&D labs, logistics/fulfillment).
- Deep expertise in the robotics domain. You should be comfortable discussing the intricacies of sensor modalities (LiDAR, stereo cameras, IMUs), data formats, and robotics software stacks (e.g., ROS).
- Demonstrated ability to own a technical and product roadmap, making difficult trade-offs between competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional customer-facing skills with experience acting as a trusted technical advisor to external partners and executive stakeholders.
- A "first principles" thinker who is equally comfortable debugging a hardware issue on the floor, writing a strategic 3-year plan, or presenting to our executive team.
- BS or MS in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Bonus Points
- Direct experience building or managing data collection/generation systems for machine learning.
- Experience in a specific robotics vertical such as autonomous vehicles, logistics automation, or manufacturing.
- Familiarity with the machine learning data lifecycle, including annotation, data quality, and model evaluation.
If you are a builder who is passionate about robotics and wants to solve one of the most significant challenges in the AI industry today, we would love to hear from you.
