About this role:
This role serves as the partner to the Head of National Security Policy. While the Head of National Security Policy focuses on external engagements, strategic positioning, and final decision-making, this role owns the day-to-day management of the team—ensuring members of the National Security Policy team are supported, priorities are clear, and work moves forward efficiently. This role requires a deep understanding of the national security and policy landscape, with opportunities to further expertise with tutelage from the Head of National Security Policy.
As a member of the Policy leadership team, this role also contributes to the broader direction of Anthropic's policy function and ensures strong alignment between National Security and other policy workstreams.
Responsibilities:

Manage the daily operations of the National Security Policy team, including workflow, priorities, and deliverables, and provide visibility to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

Run team rhythms (including standups, planning sessions, and check-ins) and keep work on track

Surface blockers early and drive resolution

Own hiring, onboarding, performance conversations, and career development

Maintain pulse on team health—gather feedback, flag concerns, and foster strong team culture and collaboration

Act as proxy for the Head of National Security Policy in internal meetings and decision-making processes when needed

Represent the team's needs, perspectives, and priorities to cross-functional partners
Drafting, prioritization, and strategic execution

Draft key internal and external documents, briefings, and communications on behalf of the Head of National Security Policy

Translate strategic direction into clear priorities, workplans, and deliverables

Ensure the team's work aligns with broader company and policy goals
Cross-functional alignment

Build and maintain strong working relationships across Policy, Legal, Comms, Security, and other functions

Ensure National Security Policy priorities are well-understood across the organization and cross-functional dependencies are managed proactively

Serve as a connective thread between National Security Policy and the broader Policy team
Policy leadership

Participate in Policy leadership forums and contribute to function-wide strategy and planning

Keep a pulse on the business—understand company priorities and ensure National Security Policy work connects to them

Shape long-term strategic planning, including having a strong intuition for emerging internal and external policy issues and developing proactive strategies around them
