Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We think deeply and solve complex technical challenges in areas like robotics, perception, decision-making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. In this hybrid role, you will report to a Director in Machine Learning.
You Will
- Push forward on the state of the art of deep learning to solve extremely challenging real world robotics problems that is already driving at large scale.
- Manage multiple teams of world class machine learning software engineers
- Drive the short term and long term technical vision in a space where the long term is an open research problem
- Develop a strong collaborative relationship with peers spanning across the entire company
You Have
- Deep learning expertise, including recent innovation in large pre-trained foundational models and architecture performance optimizations
- PhD in ML, specifically with a deep-learning focus
- 4+ years of experience managing large teams (50+ people) in complex, fast growth environments
- Strong track record in designing org structures and growing people
- Execution mindset and skills in a fast paced environment
We Prefer
- Experience in ML infrastructure, and how to build a culture with sustainable engineering practices
- Managed organizations (100+ people)
- Led an organization through a time of technical or product change
- Experience co-developing closely with research teams
- A strong publication record
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
