About the Role:
We are seeking a Head of International Accounting to establish and lead our international accounting operations, with a primary focus on expansion in the EMEA region. In this pivotal role, you will build the foundation for Anthropic's international accounting function, implement scalable processes, and develop a high-performing team. As our first finance leader in the region, you'll work closely with our US-based teams to ensure seamless integration while establishing local operations that support our rapid growth.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the establishment and scaling of our international accounting operations and financial reporting requirements.
- Build and manage a high-performing accounting team in Ireland, manage local accounting functions with dotted line reports to US team
- Own intercompany accounting processes and foreign currency consolidation between parent entity and subsidiaries
- Implement and oversee statutory financial reporting and compliance requirements for international entities
- Develop and execute international billing processes and financial controls
- Own and manage local statutory account audit, local compliance and reporting
- Manage relationships with external vendors, including payroll providers and professional service firms
- Partner with US-based functional leads to ensure alignment of global processes
- Lead development and implementation of international finance policies, including adapting existing global policies for regional requirements, establishing appropriate approval workflows and controls, and ensuring compliance with local statutory requirements while maintaining alignment with global standards
- Create scalable systems and procedures that support our international growth
You may be a good fit if you:
- Have 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant international operations exposure
- Possess deep technical knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, and local statutory requirements
- Have successfully established or scaled international finance operations in high-growth environments
- Bring strong leadership capabilities with experience building and developing teams
- Are comfortable being the first finance hire in a region and working with matrix reporting relationships
- Hold relevant accounting qualifications (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent)
- Thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments where you can shape processes from the ground up
- Are passionate about Anthropic's mission to develop safe and ethical AI systems
Strong candidates may have:
- Prior experience at a high-growth technology company
- Track record of implementing ERP systems or financial tools across multiple regions
- Comfort in ambiguity and confidence to build first in kind processes
- Experience with AI/ML company dynamics and billing models
- Background in establishing operations from the ground up
- Demonstrated success managing distributed stakeholders across different time zones
- History of mentoring and developing finance talent in international settings
