Position Overview
Snorkel is seeking a Staff HR Business Partner to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the people strategy for our newest business line in the data development space. This nascent function of our business will see significant growth this year, and we need a seasoned HRBP to help drive the org's design, hiring plans, employment classifications, culture and growth. You will work closely with business leaders, including executives, to provide strategic HR guidance and hands-on support. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, has strong opinions grounded in expertise, and is passionate about scaling organizations with innovative HR solutions.
Location : Bay Area - Hybrid - 3x per week minimum in our SF office.
Key Responsibilities
This role reports into the Director of People & Culture, and will focus on:
Strategic Business Partnership
- Collaborate with executives and senior leaders to design and implement organizational structures that can scale with high-growth, while also supporting agile business objectives.
- Provide expert guidance on workforce planning, including headcount forecasting and talent allocation.
- Lead the development of compensation structures, job laddering frameworks, and role classifications.
Leadership Coaching and Development
- Act as a trusted advisor and coach to business leaders of all levels, supporting their development and decision-making.
- Deliver targeted guidance on performance management and team engagement, helping leaders maintain high-performing, highly engaged teams.
- Build leadership capabilities across varied experience levels, ensuring alignment with Snorkel AI’s cultural values.
Operational HR Excellence
- Develop and implement HR strategies tailored to hourly and 1099 workers, ensuring compliance and alignment with business needs.
- Support scaling efforts by proactively addressing HR complexities related to rapid growth, such as compliance, cultural integration, and diverse role requirements.
- Drive cross-functional consistency by partnering with engineering, operations, and other teams to meet organizational goals.
HR Team Collaboration and Peer Leadership
- Partner closely with HR team peers to design and execute cross-functional initiatives that align with Snorkel AI’s overall people strategy.
- Share expertise and insights to elevate the capabilities of the HR team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Act as a peer leader within the HR function, contributing to HR programs, practices and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience as an HR Business Partner
- Proven experience supporting operations functions or professional services organizations in a strategic HR capacity.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and influence executives and senior leaders on complex HR topics.
- Strong knowledge of HR fundamentals, including organizational design, compensation frameworks, and performance management systems.
- Experience working with hourly and 1099 workers, with a deep understanding of associated HR requirements and best practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to guide and coach leaders at all levels.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Knowledge of federal and local labor laws and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a gig economy company (e.g., DoorDash, Lyft, Uber, Scale AI) with a focus on scaled 1099 contractor models.
- Senior or staff-level experience, with the ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced, tech-driven startup environment.
- Direct experience supporting a General Manager or matrixed organizational structure.
- Familiarity with scaling organizations through periods of rapid headcount growth and associated HR complexities.
- Exposure to a wide range of functional roles, including engineering, operations, and others.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Our compensation range for the Bay Area is $175,000 - $215,000.
