Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.
As part of Waymo's Legal team, you will work on the exciting legal issues surrounding our transformational autonomous driving technology and help drive our business lines forward from technology ideation through scaled commercial deployment. We partner with our public policy, safety, security and privacy experts to define transportation policy for the autonomous driving world to come, advising on regulatory changes that support and protect our users around the world. We collaborate with our engineering, product, strategy and operations teams to develop and protect our intellectual property portfolio and drive our corporate and commercial transactions. We ensure compliance with an increasingly complex and dynamic range of global regulations. And we anticipate, mitigate, and litigate high-profile and precedent-setting legal matters.
In this hybrid role, you will report into our Sr. Program Manager, Regulatory Compliance.
You Will
- Partner with legal counsel to intake and document new and existing compliance requirements for Waymo, its vendors, and partners, with a primary focus on US markets. This includes maintaining an inventory and mapping requirements in Jira, establishing a RACI framework, and communicating requirements to stakeholders.
- Define and operate a communication strategy with xfn partners to support efficient and effective change management for net new and changing requirements.
- Help ensure appropriate program governance for new markets and maintenance for existing markets - incl. the drafting and management of policies, standards, SOPs, and training documents in accordance with Waymo's documentation policies and systems.
- Build risk assessments and develop evaluation metrics in partnership with other members of the Regulatory Compliance team.
- Employ the appropriate use of automation via Gemini or other systems in as much of the inventory and governance system as possible, including the creation of requirements and drafting of policies and communication documents.
You Have
- At least 4 years experience working on regulatory compliance, preferably at a safety-focused, highly-regulated organization. It will be imperative to understand the risks associated with poor regulatory requirements management, can speak to and help build learned best practices, and can effectively help create documentation associated with such a program.
- Core experience building and maintaining a requirements inventory and related RACIs, ideally within Jira or a similar system.
- Demonstrable history of writing policies, standards, or other documentation to support xfn governance efforts.
- Experience developing and executing communication strategies to facilitate change management, ensuring effective, consistent, and efficient information dissemination to key stakeholders.
- Highly collaborative, creative, and organized, with action-oriented problem solving skills.
- A demonstrable instinct and bias to use automation where possible (e.g. via the usage of Gemini to draft documentation, using automated functions in Jira, and establishing templates for mass uploads of data into Jira).
We Prefer
- Experience assembling, managing, and communicating regulatory requirements to stakeholders in a highly dynamic, fast-paced, and often ambiguous environment
- Ability to perform both manual, tedious tasks, and to own the conceptualization and operationalization of new processes that improve and/or close gaps in existing flows, with a bias toward automating as much as possible
- Demonstrably strong project and program management skills
- High EQ with personally responsible, team player mentality
- Active Jira user; highly familiar with its capabilities and shortcomings
