About the Team
The Storage Platform team builds and operates the data backbone for large-scale GPU training and inference. We design the end-to-end storage stack—from semi-persistent NVMe/SSD on GPU servers to on-prem storage racks and Cloud Provider storage services.
The team spans blob storage segmentation for internal tenants, capacity and delivery planning with cloud and colocation partners, and the tooling that makes petabyte-scale data movement safe, fast, and observable. We partner closely with cross-functional engineering, capacity planning, and strategic teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective storage primitives and developer experiences that unblock rapid experimentation and training workloads.
About the Role
As a Technical Program Manager for Storage Platform, you will drive the roadmap and execution for storage services and rack deployments that power our training datasets and GPU cluster infrastructure. You’ll orchestrate multi-team programs across hardware turn-up, platform services, and data tooling—owning plans, risks, and delivery across phases from design to production.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
Guide the roadmap for automation to support future growth of OpenAI's storage footprint and platform.
Build and scale data-movement capabilities (cloning, replication, integrity checks, auditability, pruning) for very large training datasets; enable fast data discovery and self-serve workflows for researchers.
Partner with Infra Strategy and providers to plan, procure, and deliver storage on time; align delivery schedules with cluster bring-up and capacity milestones.
Define and ship blob storage segmentation and policies (tenancy, quotas, lifecycle, cost allocation) for internal users and workloads.
Create crisp documentation, runbooks, and paved paths so teams can adopt storage services safely and quickly.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Possess a degree in a hard science, or have a demonstrated track record of engineering expertise.
Have 5+ years of experience in program management for major projects including capital projects or hyperscaler infrastructure deployment
Ability to dive into ambiguous technical problem spaces that may involve GPU, Storage, and AI/ML Platform Infrastructure.
Demonstrated ability to serve as the go-to person solely responsible for driving and delivering complex projects.
Comfortable in managing cross-functional and cross-company teams; experience driving information and decision hygiene
Have an extensive track record of successfully delivering high-profile, technical projects against tight deadlines.
Are technically adept and have effectively partnered with engineering or fundamental research teams of the highest caliber.
Expertise in designing and implementing simple, scalable processes that solve complex problems.
Experience managing complicated dependencies such as logistics and or supply chains
Are relentlessly resourceful and thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
Are interested in and thoughtful about the impacts of AGI.
