Today, we are reimagining parking to enable millions of consumers to just "drive in and drive out." We envision a future where people transact in the real world with a speed, ease, and convenience that is unparalleled, even online. Tomorrow, we will power checkout-free experiences anywhere you go, making everyday experiences of living, working, and playing remarkable and giving us back our most valuable asset, time.
Who you are
Metropolis is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Recognition Intelligence Applications team. In this role, you have a primary responsibility for building innovative AI solutions that process camera input to identify behavior and intent, delivering a seamless "pass for everywhere" for our end-users. You have an expert understanding of internal systems and have established yourself as a strong steward of the tools and features your team relies on. As a product-oriented influencer, you identify opportunities for improvement and drive technical changes to address issues that slow down the development of experience orchestration tools for luxury resort chains. You take responsibility for the engineering craft of your projects and can effectively lead a small team toward common goals as we incubate 0-to-1 initiatives.
What you’ll do
- Design, implement, and maintain the backend services that make up the Metropolis recognition platform
- Participate as a key part of the entire development lifecycle, including ideation and identifying requirements
- Moderate technical discussions and evaluate new techniques to ensure our platform is constantly evolving
- Leverage best practices in automation testing and deployment to enable rapid iteration and launch of new features
- Help build a culture where bugs and mistakes in production are treated as opportunities to improve the platform
- Ensure that the systems we build are highly available and scalable
- Work directly with our partners and build solutions that seamlessly integrate their products with the Metropolis platform
- Lead a small team towards common goals while facilitating clear and well-communicated outcomes
- Identify and drive changes to improve the components or systems you work on
- Provide detailed positive and constructive feedback to help the team reach a consistently high level of productivity
What we’re looking for
- 6+ years of software engineering experience
- Demonstrate advanced-level knowledge of Scala, Java, or a related language
- Proven track record of designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems and software products
- Experience with microservices, event-driven architectures, and related technologies
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of Agile engineering processes, including TDD/BDD and CI/CD
- Experience with database technologies, especially MySQL and Postgres
- Communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences
- Show a track record of completing projects of large scope independently
- Demonstrate strong fundamental computer science skills and a high level of engineering craft
While not required, these are a plus
- BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
- Possess hands-on experience with container technologies and infrastructure as code techniques
- Work experience in innovative, high-growth environments
- Experience with leveraging AI technology to identify behavior and intent from camera input
- Previous experience incubating 0 to 1 projects or initiatives within a mobility or hospitality vertical
