Location Requirement
We believe the best ideas happen together. To support fast collaboration and a strong team culture, this role is expected to be in our Palo Alto office five days a week, unless otherwise specified.
We are seeking a VP of Medical Excellence and Safety to lead the company's commitment to clinical rigor, patient safety, and medical governance across Hippocratic AI's platform. This executive will define the standards by which our AI agents operate — ensuring every patient interaction, clinical workflow, and safety process meets the highest bar for accuracy, reliability, and harm prevention.
This role goes beyond traditional medical affairs. You will own the end-to-end medical quality and safety architecture for an AI platform that engages patients and healthcare professionals at scale. You will build the systems, frameworks, and culture that make medical excellence a defining characteristic of Hippocratic AI — not just a compliance requirement but a competitive differentiator and a core expression of our mission.
The ideal candidate has deep roots in medical affairs, clinical medicine, pharmacovigilance, or patient safety and brings an operator's mindset to building governance systems in fast-moving environments. Join experts who've spent their careers improving care, advancing science, and building world-changing technologies — ensuring our platform is powerful, trusted, and truly transformative.
About the Role
The VP of Medical Excellence and Safety is responsible for defining and upholding the clinical, scientific, and safety standards that govern Hippocratic AI's platform across all customer environments. You will serve as the company's most senior authority on medical accuracy, patient safety, adverse event management, clinical content governance, and quality assurance for AI-driven healthcare interactions.
You will design and operationalize the frameworks that ensure every platform interaction is medically sound, clinically appropriate, and safe — spanning medical information delivery, safety signal detection, escalation protocols, and continuous quality monitoring. You will also serve as a trusted voice in enterprise sales and deployment conversations where clinical credibility and safety confidence are essential to earning and retaining customer trust.
You will report to the President, Life Sciences, and work closely with the Chief Commercial Officer, Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Engineering leadership.
What You'll Do
Medical Excellence and Clinical Governance
Define and maintain the clinical and scientific quality standards that govern all patient-facing and HCP-facing platform interactions across therapeutic areas.
Establish and oversee a medical content governance framework ensuring all AI-generated responses are accurate, evidence-based, current with treatment guidelines, and aligned with approved labeling.
Design clinical escalation pathways, triage logic, and guardrails that ensure patients are routed appropriately when interactions exceed the platform's safe operating parameters.
Build and lead a medical review and quality assurance function that continuously audits platform interactions for clinical accuracy, appropriateness, and safety.
Partner with Product and Engineering to embed clinical decision logic, medical guardrails, and quality feedback loops directly into platform architecture.
Stay current on therapeutic developments, evolving standards of care, and emerging best practices in AI-enabled clinical communication.
Patient Safety and Pharmacovigilance
Own the company's patient safety strategy, including adverse event detection, documentation, reporting, and follow-up processes across all platform deployments.
Build and operationalize pharmacovigilance workflows that meet or exceed regulatory requirements across FDA, EMA, and other relevant jurisdictions.
Develop safety signal monitoring capabilities that leverage platform data to identify emerging safety patterns and escalate appropriately.
Define safety metrics, KPIs, and reporting dashboards that provide real-time visibility into platform safety performance for internal leadership and customer stakeholders.
Ensure all safety processes are audit-ready and compliant with GVP, GCP, and applicable regulatory standards.
Regulatory Readiness and Compliance Partnership
Partner with Legal and Compliance to ensure platform workflows meet HIPAA, GDPR, and industry-specific data governance and privacy standards.
Advise on MLR review processes, non-promotional communication requirements, and regulatory positioning as they apply to AI-enabled patient and HCP engagement.
Guide internal teams and pharma customers on regulatory expectations across jurisdictions and therapeutic contexts.
Monitor and advise leadership on emerging regulatory trends in AI-enabled healthcare, including FDA guidance on AI/ML in clinical settings, EU AI Act implications, and evolving global standards.
Enterprise Sales and Deployment Support
Provide medical and safety credibility during enterprise sales conversations, RFP responses, and executive workshops with pharma, medtech, and health system customers.
Help Sales navigate medical, safety, legal, compliance, and governance review processes within prospective and existing accounts.
Develop materials and frameworks that demonstrate the platform's clinical rigor, safety architecture, and quality assurance capabilities to customer stakeholders.
Provide strategic oversight during early deployments to ensure clinical accuracy, safety protocols, escalation pathways, and quality monitoring are properly configured and validated.
Scaling, Learning, and Organizational Development
Translate learnings from customer engagements, pilot deployments, and safety data into repeatable medical excellence and safety playbooks.
Build internal knowledge bases covering clinical governance standards, AE reporting workflows, quality assurance procedures, and therapeutic area–specific safety considerations.
Develop training programs that elevate medical and safety literacy across the organization, including Customer Success, Sales, and Product teams.
Establish a culture of continuous improvement in medical quality and patient safety, creating feedback mechanisms that drive platform enhancement over time.
