About the role
Anthropic is seeking an outstanding counsel to manage litigation, dispute resolution, and regulatory matters related to our business. As a member of our litigation and regulatory team, you will focus primarily on managing litigation files and pre-litigation disputes with minimal supervision, scaling the growing litigation function, and advising on litigation risk. You may also work on regulatory investigations as needed. You will work cross-functionally to handle these matters with minimal disruption to the business. The ideal candidate will have broad-based experience managing civil litigation in the context of emerging technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Provide counsel across a broad range of litigation matters, including intellectual property, privacy and commercial disputes. Cases may include both first-party and third-party matters
- Manage and collaborate with outside counsel across all stages of litigation
- Develop internal processes, policies, and tools to support litigation and regulatory matters efficiently and at scale
- Work cross-functionally with teams to collect information efficiently, evaluate risk, and develop appropriate matter-resolution proposals
- Stay up to date on relevant laws, regulations, industry trends, and share developments with key stakeholders as needed
You may be a good fit if you:
- Have a JD and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred), with 5-8 years of relevant legal experience
- Have deep substantive knowledge in litigation practice and procedure and experience representing emerging technology companies
- Possess exceptional analytical, organizational, and collaboration skills

Strong candidates may have:
- Experience managing copyright and privacy matters, as well as commercial disputes.
- Experience managing regulatory responses or investigations, including both first-party and third-party responses.
- Experience advancing business priorities while addressing legal risks at growth-stage companies, with creativity and an openness to novel solutions.
- Excellent composure in stressful situations.
- A passion for supporting the development of AI that is both innovative and trustworthy, understanding the opportunities of AI to benefit society as well as the risks and limitations that must be addressed.
Role-specific policy: For this role, we expect all staff to be able to work from our San Francisco office at least 3 days a week, though we encourage you to apply even if you might need some flexibility for an interim period of time.
