About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Privacy Counsel, EMEA to join our Legal team in our growing Dublin, Ireland office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in EU privacy, data protection, security, and AI laws, with a proven track record of building robust processes and programs to address complex privacy and data protection issues across the EMEA. Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive EU privacy and data protection strategies that align with the technology, product, and services Anthropic is building and our overall company goals
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance on privacy, data protection, and direct marketing laws, regulations, and best practices, with a focus on European jurisdictions
- Work with cross-functional teams to design and implement privacy-by-design principles in product development, particularly in the realm of emerging technologies and AI
- Collaborate with product counsel to integrate privacy considerations into daily operations and product planning
- Maintain relationships with key regulators and stay abreast of emerging legal and regulatory developments in the privacy and data protection landscape
- Collaborate closely with our privacy program team on the maintenance and maturation of our GDPR compliance program, governance framework, accountability documentation, internal and external policies and related training
- Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory developments affecting privacy and data protection laws
You may be a good fit if you have:
- 7+ years of privacy and data protection legal experience, preferably in high-growth technology environments
- A law degree and are qualified to practice as a lawyer in at least one member state of the European Union
- Deep knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other data protections laws across EU and broader EMEA, and their practical application in a global context
- Extensive experience advising on privacy, data protection, and direct marketing laws, regulations, and guidance in Europe
- Strong understanding of the interplay between privacy, security, and AI, and the ability to provide strategic guidance in these areas
- Excellent leadership skills and the ability to drive projects forward in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with regulators, internal teams, external partners and experience speaking to media
- A proven ability to think strategically and translate complex legal concepts into practical business solutions
- Full professional fluency in English; proficiency in additional European languages is a plus
Strong candidates may have:
- A deep understanding of data protection regulations in other jurisdictions, enabling them to support the organization's global data protection efforts
- Experience with privacy-enhancing technologies and their implementation in a business setting
- A track record of successfully managing data breach incidents, including coordinating with relevant authorities and communicating with affected individuals
- Knowledge and experience with other EU technology regulations like the EU AI Act, Digital Services Act, EU Copyright Directive and their interplay with GDPR
- A network of contacts within the data protection community, allowing them to stay informed about best practices and share knowledge with peers
