ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a passionate and driven Reliability Engineering Intern to join our Silicon Photonics team for Summer 2026. In this role, you will support the development and execution of reliability testing strategies for next-generation photonic devices used in high-speed data communication and computing applications.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of semiconductor reliability and photonics innovation, contributing to the long-term performance and robustness of cutting-edge optical components.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the design and execution of reliability test plans for silicon photonics components (e.g., modulators, photodetectors, waveguides, lasers).
- Support environmental stress testing (e.g., HTOL, TC, HAST, damp heat) and optical performance monitoring over time.
- Analyze degradation trends in optical and electrical parameters using statistical tools and scripting (e.g., Python, JMP).
- Help develop or enhance data collection and analysis pipelines, including database integration and visualization dashboards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, test, packaging, and failure analysis to identify and resolve reliability risks.
- Document test procedures, results, and findings in technical reports and presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- Coursework or project experience in photonics, semiconductor devices, or optical communications.
- Familiarity with reliability testing methods and failure mechanisms in optoelectronic devices is a plus.
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data analysis and automation.
- Experience with optical test equipment (e.g., optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, BER testers) is a strong plus.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Enthusiasm for learning and contributing in a fast-paced, collaborative R&D environment.
WHAT YOU'LL GAIN
- Hands-on experience with real-world reliability challenges in silicon photonics.
- Exposure to advanced testing methodologies and failure analysis techniques.
- Mentorship from experienced engineers and opportunities to present your work.
- A chance to contribute to the future of optical interconnects and high-speed data technologies.
